What is Burning Man?
From http://www.burningman.com/first_timers/:

Once a year, tens of thousands of people gather in Nevada's Black Rock Desert (also known as "the playa") to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever.

Even considering going to Burning Man for the first time can be daunting. And while it's true that Burning Man is not for the faint of heart, with some research, preparation, and planning, an experience -- and opportunity -- beyond your wildest dreams awaits you. In Black Rock City, you're guaranteed not to be the weirdest kid in the classroom. And you'll become a part of the growing community of Burners who are active year-round, around the world ... ensuring that the fire of Burning Man culture never goes out.

Some of my favorites
I'll be going back to Burning Man for the 14th year in a row. This year without my own art piece, I AM helping with a couple of the CORE projects that will ring around the man this year.

Take a look at some of my past projects
Hard to pick favorites
1.)  2004 The Pagoda of Infinite Reflection
the tallest and best piece I've made on the desert

My firt collaborative piece which eventually had over 50 workers including many on playa volunteers. Took us 5 days to build, it stood for 2 days, then we loaded it with 4-5 cords of wood and burned it down.

 2.)  2003 ..a place to stand...
and the movie that made me a movie star

I'd always wanted to make a big globe, and when an 8' fiberglass sphee presented itself, I just had to build something for the playa.

 3.)  2008 THE END
my last art project (til next year that is)

I considered making this my last burning man project, but it is tough to resist the urge to build out there.

Gong along with the theme of The American Dream , I meant this to express my sense that the American Dream has largely come to an end. Also, since I see a large part of the death of the American Dream in the way we have reacted to the events of 911, I set this on fire by running an airplane into it followed by 4 gasoline cannon explosions. Too bad so few people saw it burn.

 4.)  2006 Intellingent Design
which returned in 2009
 5.)  2000 Wizzard da Vinci
 6.)  2000 - 2003 Wizzard Oasis
 7.)  2005 Project X
messing with our friends

The best stuff I DIDN'T make.
There ARE a couple other artists at Burning Man each year.
Each Year someone goes WAAY over the top.
Some of my favorites
 1.)  2010 - Bliss Dancer
Michelangelo meets the playa. This is one of the most beautifully made sculpturs of it's scale ever to grace the playa in my opinion.
2.)  2001 - Flock Michael Chritian is my favorite artist on the playa. He's done some of my favorite pieces over a long strecth of time. I've met him 4-5 times, but each time it's like the first time for both of us. Hmmm.
3.)  2007 - Crude Awakening Nicely built 95' tall derrick that 100 people could climb without hardly a jiggle. The fire that set it alite was even more amazing.
4.)  2003 - Temple of Gravity My favorite scene at this installation was watching two HUGE federal marshalls watching the late night crowd climbing above and dancing below these multi-ton chunks of hanging granite. One was slowly shaking his head and said to the other: "This is a disaster waiting to happen. I gotta leave."
 5.)  ???? - Free Mayo
Sometimes it's the small art that makes the biggest impression.
